Frequently Asked Questions

Got questions? We've got answers. If you don't find what you're looking for, feel free to contact us.

What is the adoption process like?
The process is straightforward: browse pets → submit an application → meet the pet → home visit (if needed) → sign agreement & take your new friend home. It usually takes 3–10 days depending on the pet and your situation.
Is there an adoption fee?
Yes, there is a reasonable adoption fee that helps cover vaccinations, spay/neuter surgery, microchipping, deworming, and initial medical care. Fees typically range from $50–$150 depending on the animal's age and species.
Can I adopt if I live in an apartment?
Absolutely! Many of our pets do very well in apartments. We look at the overall environment, energy level of the pet, and your daily routine more than just the type of housing.
Do you allow out-of-state adoptions?
Currently, most adoptions are local (within Cairo and nearby areas) due to transport logistics and follow-up visits. However, we sometimes make exceptions for long-distance adoptions with proper arrangements.
What happens if the adoption doesn't work out?
We have a 30-day return policy. If for any reason the adoption isn't a good fit, you can return the pet to us—no questions asked—and we will find them another loving home.
How do I become a volunteer?
We welcome volunteers! Visit our Volunteer page to see current opportunities (walking dogs, socializing cats, event help, photography, admin support, etc.). Fill out the interest form and we'll get in touch.
Can I foster a pet instead of adopting?
Yes! Fostering is a great way to help. You provide temporary care (usually 2 weeks to 3 months) until we find a permanent home. We cover food, vet care, and supplies.
